About Counselling
The initial session
In our initial meeting we will explore together what therapy may look like for you, what your expectations are, and at the same time, you can get to know me and my approach too.
This initial session is also a good opportunity for you to decide if you would be comfortable working with me as your counsellor. There is no obligation for you to continue counselling after this initial session.
Please contact me and we can have a brief conversation and book your first session, which can take place face to face, on-line or by telephone.
One-to-One Counselling Sessions
There is no commitment to an agreed amount of sessions. We will work at your pace and review and decide how we proceed at a point where it feels natural and right to do so.
Your sessions can be weekly, fortnightly or monthly depending on your needs. You can have a slot that is only yours: The same day, the same time and within a pattern of regularity.
I follow the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) Ethical Framework and everything discussed in therapy remains private and confidential.
What is my role as your counsellor and how can counselling benefit you?
At its most basic level counselling provides you with a safe, reflective space. A space away from friends, family and colleagues , enabling you to talk openly and confidentially to a trained professional who will listen in a non-judgmental way as you tell your story.
Throughout the course of counselling, clients are offered support and encouragement. They may also be appropriately challenged to develop new ways of thinking at times.
Everyone comes with different expectations of what they wish to gain from the therapeutic experience. Depending on the issues addressed, counselling may take the form of focused therapy over a short period, or more long-term work where deeper healing is needed.
Research shows that regardless of the therapeutic orientation, fundamentally it's the relationship with the therapist that offers the potential for transformation.
The benefits of counselling and psychotherapeutic intervention are numerous and can lead to increased motivation and confidence, a heightened sense of self-awareness and personal insight, enabling clients to effect positive change in their lives, move forward and experience healing, renewal and personal growth.
